If you’ve been to the Yarmouth Regional Hospital recently, you may have noticed some new handicap parking spaces.
Fraser Mooney, spokesperson with the Nova Scotia Health Authority, tells CJLS News they are trying to improve accessibility.
“We’re really pleased that we’re able to add six more handicap parking spots at the Yarmouth Hospital, two of which are dedicated for staff. So, that is a way to improve accessibility to the hospital and safety for people who are coming as patients, or visitors, or families”
Mooney says they are always looking for ways to improve service.
“It’s part of the ongoing review of accessibility in our facilities. A few things are being looked at, so there’s probably more opportunities to add parking spaces or ramps or buttons on doors. There’s always things we can do to improve accessibility”
Mooney says the spaces are at the front of the building by the School of Nursing and near the entrance to the Emergency Room.
Handicap spaces already exist in the south parking lot on the harbour side of the building.
