The Cape Saint Mary Lighthouse Park is officially open to the public.
The Municipality of Clare made a lot of improvements to the building and waterfront site to enrich the visitor experience and attract more visitors to the region.
Larry Peach, tourism manager for the municipality, says over 200 people were at the lighthouse last week for the opening and a special unveiling.
“The lost to the sea monument is a project the community has been working on for a number of years. A lot of research went into that project. We have a new parking lot, benches, an accessible picnic shelter and more.”
A viewing scope has been installed.
There are interpretive panels explaining the founding of the village, history of the lighthouse, the Deportation of the Acadians, the local marine ecology, and yes, even the fog.
