Wooded areas across Nova Scotia will soon be busy with hunters dressed in bright orange.
General deer hunting season begins Friday and goes until December 3.
Minister of Natural Resources, Lloyd Hines, encourages people to be safe and let someone know when and where they will be in the woods.
Hunters are required to carry a compass and waterproof matches.
They are also recommended to carry a map or GPS unit, a first-aid kit, and a cell phone.
Hunting of all wildlife, except moose, is allowed on two Sundays during the season; October 30 and November 6.
