Yarmouth scored twice in the first period and three times in the second to lead 5-0 after two.
Goals came from Aaron Maillet, Ben Chipman, Laramie Kostelansky, Matt Smith, Andrew Martell and Brent Broaders.
Leif Hertz was outstanding in the Yarmouth crease, making 36 saves.
Summerside outshot the Mariners, but Caps starting goalie Rett Rook was pulled in the second period for Cody Smith.
Head Coach and GM Laurie Barron says his team wasn’t great on defense.
“We want to get better every game and I’m not 100 percent sure we did that tonight. But, good teams find ways to win, and I’m glad we got the two points. I’d just like to see us tighten up a little bit defensively.”
Barron says Hertz was the best player on the ice.
“There’s no question about it. If you look at the shots on goal, they were about even. If not for Leif we would have been in trouble. He was huge.”
The Mariners began the season 12-0 last year, and now at 3-0, Barron says his club is deeper this year.
He says they want to improve each game, and hope to carry this success through the season.
The Mariners are back in action tomorrow night against Miramichi at 7:30.
