A Yarmouth man is hoping the town can market itself as ‘the birthplace of Maud Lewis.’
Wayne Hamilton, who has helped organized many events in the area has been an advocate in promoting the late folk-artist for many years.
Hamilton wrote a letter to council saying he believes there should be signage on the 101 and 103 highways telling visitors that Yarmouth was her hometown.
He says the marketing opportunities would be endless.
“Art festivals, celebrating all genres by using Maud. If you use the words folk-art anywhere in the world, Maud Lewis comes up. This is definitely the birthplace of Maud Lewis. She was here until she was in her 30’s.”
With the critically acclaimed film ‘Maudie’ coming to theatres, Hamilton says the timing couldn’t be better.
Last week Council decided to examine the cost of the road signs for the next Committee of the Whole meeting.
