A refrigerator recently tossed into Broad Brook near Kelley’s Cove in Yarmouth County has shed light on illegal dumping.
Waste Check, which serves Yarmouth to Digby has some tips on what to do when you catch someone illegally throwing away waste.
By-law Enforcement Officer Ritchie Nickerson says they get around 10-15 calls a month related to illegal dumping activity.
“If a resident encounters somebody dumping, if they can identify the vehicle (make, model, license plate) and how many individuals, they can give us a call. I do all follow ups in regards to illegal dumping in our area.
He says with that information, they would hopefully be able to contact the culprit and take appropriate action.
Nickerson says instances are not increasing, and 10-15 calls are within a normal range.
He says illegal dumping can harm the environment and should be taken seriously.
