Fire destroyed a vehicle this morning on Highway 101 near the Hebron exit.
But was the van was more than a form of transportation. It was Red Newell’s home.
The retired cab driver had been living in the vehicle for the past 7 months, parking at night wherever he felt safe.
Newell said he wasn’t hurt…at least physically.
“The only I hurt about is that everything was in my van. Everything. I’ve been trying to figure out how the poor people live and I’m telling you it’s not very nice.”
Newell said the hardest possessions to lose were photos of his family including his son.
He had just put some gas in the tank in town when the van stalled and an RCMP officer pulled up behind him, telling him that flames were coming out of the rear the of the van.
