Another big sporting event is being proposed for Yarmouth.
The Yarmouth and Acadian Shores Tourism Association wants to bring the national Cross-Country championships to the Yarmouth Golf and Country Club for four consecutive years, beginning in 2019.
Rick Allwright, who has been involved in the Canadian Mixed Curling Championship and the Play On! tournament is spearheading this venture.
He says he has until the end of the month to submit a bid.
“We’ve gotten support from all the municipalities to host the bid. It’s a pretty exciting event to have, a lot of people come down for it. It’s only a one day event but it can provide a lot of impact for the community.”
It would be held on the last Saturday of November.
Allwright says around 500 people would travel to Yarmouth, and the estimated economic impact would be $750,000 per year.
