The Yarmouth Food Bank was supposed to be open today (Tuesday) in a new location.
It’s the former Ben’s bakery outlet, next to Coronation Park in Milton.
Rev. Bill Newell of the Food Bank Society says unanticipated construction delays mean things had to be rescheduled.
“Last week we made the decision that we couldn’t get things together until Tuesday September 26th. I apologize to our clients for that.”
Rev. Newell says it’s difficult to help clients during this transition to Herbert Street from Glebe Street.
“It’s hard to do anything because everything’s packed up into boxes. Some things we work out of are at the new place. The other stuff is in crates and boxes at the old place. Hopefully when we get there it will be more than worth the wait.”
The building is owned by the town, which will lease it to the food bank for a dollar a month. The current lease is for 5 years.
Rev. Newell says the site has a loading dock and more room for parking.
He says the food bank serves about 300 people a month.
