Tusket Island Tours has been recognized for sustainable tourism practices at the Tourism Industry Association of Nova Scotia.
The Yarmouth County tourism operator has won the 2018 Parks Canada Sustainable Tourism Award.
It was presented at the Tourism Industry Association of Nova Scotia’s Crystal Tourism Awards of Excellence last night.
The criteria includes economic viability, environmental sustainability, and cultural appropriateness.
Tusket Island Tours is owned and operated by brothers Lucien and Simon LeBlanc.
Lucien tells CJLS News says it was worth the risk.
“Five years ago I brought back Tusket Island Tours myself. A couple of years later, we realized there were avenues for the business to grow, so my brother kind of took over the day to day tasks and doing the regular Tusket Island tours, while I brached off to the fishing charter side.”
LeBlanc says the award is a big honour.
