National Acadian Day celebrations are underway today.
Family activities are on-going at the Acadian Museum in West Pubnico.
Tonight at 7 in Ste-Anne-du-Ruisseau, there will be a mass at the Ste-Anne Church followed by a reception and music by Paul Saulnier at Club Acadien.
Conseil acadien de Par-en-Bas Executive Director Clyde deViller says Acadian Day this year has extra meaning.
“It’s been 250 years since Acadians began the return and arrival to our region after deportation. It’s a way for us to celebrate who we are, the fact that we’re here and proud of our culture and heritage, that we still speak the language and that we want to continue to do that for the next 250 years.”
Other local celebrations today include the tintamarre of the Festival Acadien de Clare at 6pm in Saint-Bernard and Salmon River.
That will be followed by a show at Universite Ste-Anne in Church Point.
The Yarmouth County Museum is also serving rappie pie today.
The Acadian flag is being flown at Province House and Government House in Halifax.
