Barton Consolidated School in Digby County will close on June 30, 2017.
The Tri-County Regional School Board voted 8-3 in favour of the closure date at a meeting last night.

Last week, the Board voted to close the school at a special meeting in Digby, citing excess space and declining enrollment as factors.
Board Chair Donna Tidd voted against closing the school.
“I feel it is a very good school, with a very good staff there. It’s very good community support for Barton.”
Tidd says closing any school is not an easy decision, and sometimes you have to look beyond financial numbers and what is best for the students.
Students at the elementary school will go to either Digby Elementary or Weymouth Consolidated in September of next year.
