The Department of Fisheries and Oceans wants to know more about ghost gear.
They’re doing an online survey, seeking public knowledge of abandoned, lost or discarded fishing gear.
DFO also wants feedback on future plans, measures and tools to prevent lost equipment.
It’s the second phase of the Ghost Gear Program, which started in 2019.
It will focus on what citizens have to say toward an action plan in time for 2027.
The feds say they’re consulting with Indigenous groups, fishers, harvesters, the industry, environmental groups and governments.
DFO will use information to present a ‘what we heard’ report in February.
Ideas are being sought on gear storage, fisheries management, technology, gear tracking and more.
