Construction on the Mariners Centre expansion project will soon begin.
The separate structure will house an aquatics and fitness centre, as well as a walking track.
Expansion committee chair Nicole Albright says construction costs are not finalized.
“It is a little bit over the original number, but still within what we feel is doable,” said Albright.
The original number was around $38 million with government funding and fundraising.
Albright says it’s the largest project the three municipal units in Yarmouth County have ever done.
She says there will be minimal disruptions at the centre.
“People will still have to be cautious around the property when work begins, but there won’t be much disruption to the arenas already in place.”
Albright says they’re excited to include a leisure pool, along with a six lane, 25 metre pool, indoor walking track and fitness centre.
She adds that the project was possible because the community wanted it, and the three municipal units worked so well together.
