The federal department of fisheries say they’re troubled by threatening behaviour in southwest Nova Scotia.
In a statement, DFO says officers have faced threats and acts of violence recently in St. Mary’s Bay, Digby County.
On September 19, there was an attempted assault as DFO officers made arrests and seized a vehicle and unauthorized lobster traps.
On September 25, they say officers attempted to board a vessel and the operator tried to flee, resulting in a collision.
They say these types of incidents are dangerous and unacceptable, and will not be tolerated.
Some DFO officers are refusing to perform enforcement actions in the field, citing concerns over violence.
The department told Acadia News in August that enforcement is still happening, and they’re making every effort to minimize operational impacts.
