Yarmouth’s Visitor Information Centre won’t be in the same spot next year.
The province recently informed staff that the current centre inside the art gallery on Main Street will not be available for use.
Local MLA and Liberal leader Zach Churchill says having a centre in Yarmouth is vital.
“If you talk to the small businesses, they know that staff at the VIC are referring tourists to them,” said Churchill.
There are five employees that work full-time at the building.
Churchill wrote a letter last week to Tourism minister Allan MacMaster, saying it’s a major concern.
“For the whole community and tourism sector. The government has committed to having a VIC at every entry point. It really makes me worry about the current review of ‘the CAT’ ferry.”
In a statement to our newsroom, Tourism Nova Scotia says they will continue to operate a centre in Yarmouth and are working to find a new location for next year.
