The Yarmouth Mariners begin their 23rd season this weekend.
They’re hosting the Pictou County Crushers Friday night in their home opener.
The team enters the season with 10 returning players, and lots of new faces.
That included a new top line of Quebec forwards Thomas Larouche, Alexis Tanguay and Justin Garneau.
Head Coach and GM Laurie Barron says his group looks solid.
“We’ve mixed those guys up with some of our returning guys like Jared Pitman, Jerome Nadeau and Keefe Marshall. I think we have a really solid top-six forward group with lots of depth,” said Barron.
The team’s leadership group will be announced before the home opener.
The Mariners are coming off a first round loss to Summerside in last year’s playoffs.
Barron says the players are ready to get going.
“The returning guys are telling the new players what it’s like to play at the Fishtank. Everyone is really excited, and we have a big game against a talented Crushers team to start. Every point in our division this year is going to be huge.”
The Mariners welcome Fredericton on Saturday night.
