It’s back to school Thursday for over 6,200 students in the Tri-Counties.
A number of changes are happening at schools, including a new cellphone policy and school lunch program for Grades P-6.
Regional executive director Jared Purdy says the program will be launched next month at 15 schools.
“It’s a pay-as-you can, it all happens through an app, and our parents and guardians will receive communications on that from us. One cool feature, it’s the same menu across the province, with healthy, nutritious meals being served,” said Purdy.
He says they’ve been getting bus routes together, and there will be some earlier times at Yarmouth-area schools, with a shortened day at Maple Grove.
Purdy says staff surveys will be going out on violence in schools, and a new policy is coming in the winter.
He adds that staff are ready.
“It’s always an exciting time of year, we got lots of work done over the summer and had great days with our leadership groups. Based on all things we’re hearing and seeing, it’s going to be a great opening to the school year.”
We wrapped up our administrator meetings today with a visit from Minister Druhan @nseducation. Thanks for the updates and support as we prepare for the new school year. #WatchUsLearn pic.twitter.com/Zm0Ut2lSfL
