Yarmouth residents are coming together to help a little boy.
Three-year-old Lucas Walker-King was born with HIE, which causes a lack of oxygen and blood-flow to the brain, and can lead to cerebral palsy.
His mother Morgan Walker says Lucas is never excluded in anything, and lives his best life.
Recently, they learned about a machine that would help Lucas be able to walk.
“It gives him a chance to be able to walk in the proper positioning. Lucas can move his thighs well, but his lower legs are more stiff. The machine helps him move his legs, but he did about 34 percent of the work himself,” said Walker.
Walker says their friend Derek Lesser set up a GoFundMe page to raise $37,000 for the cost of the machine.
Many businesses have also donated to the family, and they’re over halfway to their goal.
Walker adds it was emotional to see him take those steps
“I was very choked up. I never thought I’d see him walk, even though people would always tell me he would. To see him get that independence and how happy he was, it just melted my heart, I was so happy for him.”
She says she and Lucas’ dad Nate King couldn’t be more grateful for all the support.
