A ‘big boat’ launch is coming up in Argyle.
The 29-foot canoe was built by Wayne Doucette, along with help from several volunteers, it seats 12.
It will be launched on Sunday as part of the Tusket River Project.
Sandra Phinney with the Southwest Paddlers Association says it’s for everyone.
“It’s all about cooperation, and that’s the name of the boat, ‘Cooperators.’ Now that we have our own thanks to Wayne and a number of volunteers that put in hours and hours to build it, we have our own boat,” said Phinney.
The launch is happening at the Argyler Lodge at 1:30 p.m.
The boat is a throwback to the 17th century Voyageurs involved in transporting goods.
Activities are also planned Saturday at the courthouse and museum in Tusket.
An art workship will take place from 1-4 p.m. to make crafts for the launch on Sunday.
The project involves the Argyle Township Courthouse and Archives, Blooming Ludus and the Paddlers Association.
Phinney says they’ll have more paddles this summer in Lake Milo, and other areas, and they hope to grow the program throughout the years.
