A chance to find out more about a potential housing development in Yarmouth
Forty new single-detached homes are being proposed for vacant lots behind Myrtle Street.
An open house is being held at Mariners Centre Tuesday night at 7 p.m. with the developer and town staff.
Mayor Pam Mood says council and staff are doing their part on the housing issue.
“Housing is provincial, but we need to do everything we can to get the housing numbers up there. We need to house our people,” said Mayor Mood.
The homes would be developed in phases over time, and an extension of the road would be required, along with water and sewer.
Mood says there are lots of irons in the fire when it comes to housing, including a mixed-housing development on Shaw Avenue.
“The issue is that it takes time to get things up and running, there are a lot of steps and processes. Finding skilled trades to do the builds is certainly most difficult. We’re doing everything we can for our citizens. We’re making sure that we’re on the ball, and very aware of the pieces that we can take on.”
