Funding towards energy efficiency in the province’s fishing sector.
Ignite Atlantic was awarded $150,000 to support electric vessel conversion in Digby and Sheet Harbour.
CEO Doug Jones says they want to make sure the investments make sense around the diversity of marine vessels.
“We thought by working with the fishers and better understanding their needs and wants, we can make better informed decisions around infrastructure development,” said Jones.
The funding comes from Nova Scotia’s Fisheries and Aquaculture Energy Efficiency Innovation Fund.
Over $6.5 million will go into the program over the next three years.
Jones says they want to bring in partners that understand the grid infrastructure.
“We’re really good at bridging the gap between communities and industries in the technological world. I think we can play a valuable part in creating those conversations.”
Jones adds this will play an important part in making the transition successful and sustainable.
