Twenty-two-year-old Dalton Clark Stewart of Villagedale was not in Shelburne Provincial Court in Barrington Wednesday morning.
His lawyer Phil Star requested additional disclosure from the Crown before setting trial dates.
Star requested an adjournment to August, but the Crown said that was too long to wait.
Judge James Burrill set July 3 as the next court date in Barrington.
Stewart pleaded not guilty to three counts under the Forests Act in March.
They include lighting a fire on privately owned land without permission, failing to take reasonable efforts to prevent the spread of a fire, and leaving a fire unattended.
The wildfire near Barrington Lake broke out late last May and was more than 23,000 hectares at its peak.
The massive fire burned for nearly two months.
Dozens of homes and structure were burned while thousands of people were evacuated from their homes.
