A second protest of the closure of Yarmouth’s art gallery.
It’s happening outside the building on Main Street Saturday at 10 a.m.
The Art Gallery of Nova Scotia decided to close the Western branch permanently due to costs.
Joann Ranson with the Friends of the Art Gallery in Yarmouth says there was no dialogue on saving the art gallery.
“What would options be and how could we move forward? They closed it without any consultations, it just really isn’t acceptable,” said Ranson.
She says they’ve written two letters, and were told there will no longer be a physical art gallery.
The board has said local programming will be offered at different locations, and the closure will allow them to use money to improve programming locally and across the province.
Ranson says the community is not ok with the decision.
“I don’t think we can just say ‘ok, whatever you say.’ We’ve lost a lot of wonderful programming and a cultural centre.”
She says as the town and area recruits doctors and new people come to live here, it’s important to have a physical art gallery.
