A splash park will be ready next summer in Digby.
A committee has been working hard to fundraise since 2021.
Cindy O’Neil is a volunteer board member and treasurer.
She says through donations and government funding, they raised over 490-thousand dollars.
“Now we can add an accessible washroom, we can add picnic tables and benches, and a gazebo for shade. With that 300-thousand dollars in funding from the province, which we appreciate very much, we can now beautify this space,” said O’Neil.
She said the board members worked hard to fundraise the rest.
“We participated in all the local festivals such as the Lobster Bash, Digby Scallop Days and Wharf Rat Rally. We applied for the grants as well, and the province came through.”
Earlier this week, an official groundbreaking ceremony was held at the site next to the Digby Arena.
This is the second splash park to open in the Tri-Counties over the last couple of years.
This past summer saw the Yarmouth Splash Park have their first full season.
O’Neil said the board were happy to receive advice and guidance from the Yarmouth committee.
“This will be a great addition to the community. It offers free and inclusive recreation opportunities for all ages.”
