This Summer’s wildfires have been unprecedented. Most provinces and Territories had some sort of wild fire situation over the hot months and North West Territories was no exception. All of Yellowknife and surrounding areas were evacuated. Hay River, close to the Alberta boarder was also evacuated.
Fortuity there fast majority of people were safely evacuated to safety and so were these 16 dogs! 11 puppies and 5 full grown dogs were evacuated from the Hay River Animal Shelter to foster homes. This was ok for a short period of time but because of overcrowding and continued wildfires, a more permanent plan needed to be put in place.
That’s where the Nova Scotia SPCA came in, they flew the dogs across the country with the help of volunteers. Now the dogs are here in Nova Scotia in shelters across the province. The SPCA says they will slowly be available for adoption as they are medically treated, spay/neuters.
You can still help them in the meantime by making a donation! Check out the details below!
