A group of athletes are heading to the National Special Olympic Winter Games next year.
The curling team from Yarmouth won gold at the provincial event last year, and are now fundraising to head to Calgary in February.
Team member Emily Demings says it would mean a lot to go.
“I started curling only a few years ago, and I really fell in love with the sport. I find that the community supports us in a great way already, but it would mean a lot to us if they continue to help,” said Demings.
Assistant coach Gary Hudson says they’re trying to raise 11-thousand dollars to send 5 athletes and 2 coaches.
“When it comes to these kind of things, the community always seems to come through. I can’t say enough about their support.” said Hudson.
They’re conducting an ‘Adopt an Athlete’ program as a way of raising funds.
Hudson says they’ll be reaching out to local businesses over the next few months.
