In the Tri – Counties there are many places to fish for mackerel , many wharves to fish from and many many water ways if you have a boat to enjoy fishing mackerel.
I enjoy taking some time to try my had at Jigging a few for a good feed .
What are Mackerel ?
According to Wikipedia Mackerel is a common name applied to a number of different species of pelagic fish, mostly from the family Scombridae. They are found in both temperate and tropical seas, mostly living along the coast or offshore in the oceanic environment. Click HERE for more !
Mackerel can reach 12 to 22 inches in length and 4 to 10 pounds . they have slender body that is cylindrical in shape. It has two widely separated dorsal fins and numerous finlets (small fins) on a dorsal and lateral side of the body.
A person may engage in recreational fishing for mackerel with a handline or by angling without a license. Handline and angling are permitted. The daily bag limit is 20. The minimum mackerel size that may be retained is 26.8 cm or 11.3 inches . Click HERE for more info.
