Whether we like it or not, it looks like the carbon tax will come into effect in Atlantic Canada on July 1st. That means gas, diesel and home heating will jump up around 14 to 17 cents per liter. Unless the Federal and provincial governments come up with another plan by end of month we can expect this at midnight on July 1st. Before we get into the specifics here’s a quick video describing why we’re getting the carbon tax.
On the bright side we will all be getting a certain amount of money back through GST to offset the carbon tax. Here’s what you can expect
The Nova Scotia program provides a quarterly credit of:
-
$124 for an individual
-
$62 for a spouse or common-law partner
-
$31 per child under 19
-
$62 for the first child in a single-parent family
You won’t have to apply for the rebate. This will likly not equal out for you ( I know it dosen’t for me) but atleast we’ll get something back. Find out more details here- https://www.canada.ca/en/revenue-agency/services/child-family-benefits/cai-payment.html
Keep an eye on our news page for up to date info about the upcoming carbon tax.
