The Yarmouth Mariners begin training camp today.
Fourteen players are back from last year’s squad that finished first in the MHL’s Eastlink South Division, but fell in the opening round of the playoffs to Valley.
Twenty-nine goal scorer Reilly Mayne of Newfoundland is beginning his fourth season with the club.
He says he wants to build off last season.
“I’m going to try and put up as many goals as I can for the team, maybe shoot for the stars and try for a goal a game. I know that’s a big stretch, but I think I could handle it with the guys that we have,” says Mayne.
Other returnees include defender Ben Roode and goaltender Christophe Beluse.
Beluse of Montreal is ready to take the role of number one goaltender.
“I’ve been practicing a lot this summer. I’m excited to get an opportunity to be the number one goalie this season. I’ll enjoy it, and hopefully we’ll have a good season,” says Beluse.
The Mariners’ first exhibition game is next Wednesday at South Shore.
Intersquad games are scheduled for this weekend at Mariners Centre.
