The Municipality of Shelburne (MOC) has closed its municipal offices for the week after a flea infestation was discovered.
Chief administrative officer Warren MacLeod says they were alerted to the presence of fleas over the weekend and immediately contacted exterminators to investigate.
The exterminators confirmed the flea infestation and have now begun the extermination process which is expected to wrap up by the start of next week.
The Municipality indicated in a post online that they will reopen their offices on Monday, August 29, however, MacLeod says that was based on initial assessments by the exterminators and the date may change based on how things unfold this week.
Despite the closure municipal services are still available, with most staff working from home. “One of the benefits of the pandemic has been that we are now more prepared to work away from our offices,” said MacLeod.
Some municipal staff were allowed to enter the building on Monday morning with protective gear in order to collect documents and equipment needed to work from home.
The MOC has posted a list of contact information for town staff online in the event you need to contact someone for municipal business during the closure.
Municipal bills can still be paid during the closure online, at a bank, or with a cheque sent in the mail.
