Today is National Acadian Day, and two municipalities in the Tri-Counties have big celebrations planned.
A concert featuring some of the best Acadian artists will place in West Pubnico tonight.
Argyle MLA and Acadian Affairs Minister Colton LeBlanc says people from across Canada will be watching West Pubnico.
“It’s a nationally televised event on Dennis Point Wharf, featuring some pretty big stars entertaining. We hope to see everyone there,” says LeBlanc.
The concert is free, and the gates open at 6.
Several Tintamarre parades are taking place throughout Argyle and Clare, and a flag raising was held this morning at the Clare municipal office.
Argyle councillor Glenn Diggdon says the Tintamarre is an Acadian custom of parading through your community, and making lots of noise.
“With different types of noisemakers that people want to use. It’s about having fun and showing your Acadian roots in your community,” says Diggdon.
He says West Pubnico’s parade will begin at 4:30 where the dirt road begins, and will go to the legion.
Floats are not allowed in the Tintamarre.
