Canada’s housing minister visited Yarmouth last week.
Ahmed Hussen met with Mayor Pam Mood at town hall to discuss affordable housing, diversity and inclusion.
Mood says the conversation brought forward new ideas.
“He explained what programs are out there for funding, and how to go about them. We definitely have some great information to go forward with,” says Mayor Mood.
She says it will be important to access any possible funding to help citizens get housing.
Mood says they spoke about youth in the community, and how it ties to affordable housing.
“Juniper House, SHYFT House here in town, it’s all connected. Housing is connected to everything, and we wanted to make sure we have all the details ironed out as the town goes forward with any plans we have.”
An affordable housing development is planned for the former high school on Parade Street, but Mood says there is still no timeline from the developers on when work will start.
Mood says creating housing is always a partnership with other levels of government.
