The Yarmouth High Vikings girls softball team took the Division 1 Provincial banner last weekend in Dartmouth.
They defeated Halifax West 11-6 in the championship game.
Coach Andy Brown says it’s the Vikings’ first provincial win in five years.
“I put it all on the girls. It’s exciting for us, as coaches, but they still have to play the games. It warms your heart to see the girls pull this off,” says Brown.
There were 16 players on the team, with 11 Grade 12’s.
The Vikings went 2-1 in the round-robin, their only loss coming to Halifax West.
“They had a big focus on team, and they came together as a group. They’re an amazing group of girls.”
Brown says he and his wife Melissa plan to step aside as coaches next year after over 15 years.
