Tax rates remain the same this year in the Municipality of the District of Yarmouth.
It’s $1.18 per $100 of assessment for residential, and $2.17 per $100 for commercial.
Warden John Cunningham says they’re staying the course amid high inflation rates.
“We’re always looking to make sure the residents of MODY can afford to live here. We’re very conscious in keeping our tax rates affordable, for current and new residents,” says Cunningham.
The municipality has a $5.2 million capital budget for improvements to the waste water system, Hebron Business Park, Cape Forchu and high-speed internet.
Cunningham says they also remain committed to a modern aquatics facility at Mariners Centre, and current operations at Mariners on Main.
He says property values are up 7.5 percent, and the municipality will get a six percent increase in tax revenue by holding the rates.
“The inflation pressures for us and everyone in Canada has been very difficult, up around seven percent with no idea where it’s going over the next year. It wasn’t an easy process.”
Operational investments include nearly $2.9 million for Protective and Emergency services and $2.3 million for transfers to Education.
