The CAT is almost ready for passengers.
The Bay Ferries vessel will leave Yarmouth tomorrow morning at 9:30, and return from Bar Harbor, Maine early in the evening.
After the pandemic created hardships for tourism operators, many are hoping the return of the service is the next step in recovery.
Yarmouth and Acadian Shores Tourism Executive Director Neil MacKenzie says it’s been a long road for the industry.
“It’s been really challenging for our operators in tourism, because we’ve had to shift and find new markets, and hold onto as much business as possible during the shutdowns,” says MacKenzie.
The ferry hasn’t sailed since 2018 due to COVID restrictions and terminal renovations in the U.S.
MacKenzie says they’re already seeing an increase in room nights booked.
“We’ve had a good lift in bookings in Nova Scotia, and the same goes for our local operators. They are really happy to see this, and we need it to aid in recovery for the tourism industry.”
Nova Scotians are able to sail to Maine on the CAT at half price this season.
