Fire gutted a business in Yarmouth County this morning.
Foster’s Auto Sales in Dayton was destroyed by the blaze, which began around 8:30 this morning.
There were no injuries, and fire departments from Yarmouth, Port Maitland, Lake Vaughan and Lakes and District responded.
Yarmouth fire chief Mike Deveau says the middle bay of the building was on fire when they arrived.
“We tried to attack the fire with foam, until we were able to establish a water supply. Fire was already heavily involved in the building. We switched to defensive mode, and tried to protect some of the exposures,” says Deveau.
He says firefighters are also focused on the risk of oil run-off into Lake Milo, which is 150 feet from the structure.
“We started mitigating that risk from the on-set, and we have a team working on any oil intrusion.”
A section of Highway 1 is closed as firefighters continue to work in the area.
No word yet on the cause of the fire.
