The province is covering the remaining construction costs for a new community centre in Digby.
Government announced last Friday an additional three million dollars for the Jordantown-Acaciaville-Conway Betterment Association Centre of Excellence.
Funding of $5.5 million was announced for construction in 2018, but changes in building code requirements and project delays due to the pandemic increased the price.
In a release, Kerry Johnson, President of the association says they’ve spent many hours bringing the project to this point, and thanked the Nova Scotia government for making it a reality.
The non-profit association helps address inequalities in employment, housing, education and more in African Nova Scotian communities in Digby and surrounding areas.
The centre will include a community room, gymnasium, stage, fitness room, a library, a meeting room, a seniors’ area and a rental space.
