A goaltending dual resulted in a 1-0 overtime loss for the Yarmouth Mariners tonight, and 2-1 series lead for the Valley Wildcats.
Valley goalie Antoine Lyonnais got his second shutout of the series, both of them have come at Mariners Centre.
The Mariners’ A.J. DiChiara stopped 30 Valley shots, allowing the game winner off a rebound in overtime to Aidan MacLeod.
Yarmouth Head Coach and GM Laurie Barron says it was a great playoff game, and both goaltenders were spectacular.
“They just found a way. We missed a couple of chances early that we’d like to have back. We just missed the net too many times, we had a lot of attempted shots,” says Barron.
The Mariners were missing forward Kurtis Lang and Logan Danis due to injury.
Lang could potentially play in Thursday’s Game 4 in the Valley, while Danis will likely be out longer.
Barron says it was a battle between two teams that know each other well.
“Nobody said it was going to be easy. We’ll find out a lot about ourselves, and get right back in it and try to get home ice advantage back.”
Attendance was over 1,100, the largest crowd at the Fishtank since before the pandemic.
Game 5 will take place back at Mariners Centre on Saturday night.
