The Yarmouth Mariners closed the season strong with a 4-3 win over the Pictou County Crushers last night at Mariners Centre.
Ben Roode, Alex Roode, Patrick Hurley and Logan Danis had the Yarmouth goals, and AJ DiChiara made 22 saves for the win.
The Mariners finish the season atop the Eastlink South Division for the fifth straight year, with 25 wins in 38 games played.
Seven 20 year old players were honoured before last night’s game, including co-captain and fifth year Mariner Kaleb Boudreau.
He says it’s special to be part of this team as a local player.
“It was a fun game tonight, and to finish this off with my brothers. It’s been a great season, but we’re looking forward to getting the real season going,” says Boudreau.
Anothr 20 year old is 2018 first round pick Sam Gillis of Sydney.
He says it means a lot to be a co-captain with Boudreau.
“Me and Bouds (Boudreau) have been brothers since the start. I’m speechless to be able to wear the ‘C’ with him. It’s just an awesome privilege,” says Gillis.
Both Gillis and Boudreau were on the championship team in 2019, and both say they’re looking forward to finally being able to defend their title.
The playoffs start Friday at home against Valley.
