A playoff-like atmosphere in Yarmouth last night for the Mariners hard-hitting 6-5 win over Fredericton.
Yarmouth fell behind 2-0, but stormed back to take the lead in the second period.
After letting the Red Wings tie it a couple of times, Reid Vos potted the game winner midway through the third.
Christophe Beluse got the win in goal, making 20 saves. Logan Danis, Max-Antoine Melancon and Ben Charles also scored for Yarmouth.
Mariners Head Coach and GM Laurie Barron says it was a good test for his team.
“It was not an easy assignment. We had a few breakdowns, but it was nice to find a way to win, and come from behind. Every tough opponent going into playoffs is helpful,” says Barron.
Reilly Mayne scored twice to vault into second place in league goal scoring with 29, two back of Summerside’s Josh MacDonald.
The Mariners close out the regular season tonight at home against Pictou, then host Valley for Game 1 of the playoffs this Friday.
“Hopefully we’ll see a regular old crowd at the Fishtank. We have a lot of guys on the team that haven’t seen that yet. We’re very excited. It’s going to be a battle. Valley is a very good hockey club and well coached, so we’ll have to be ready.”
Barron says they won’t take Pictou lightly, and they’ll want to continue playing that playoff style.
