Hundreds came to the Sandy Wickens Memorial Arena in Barrington last night to watch a hockey game, and raise money for mental health initiatives.
In all, $15,000 was raised for the ‘Let Your Light Shine Jevon Link Society.’
Link was 27 when he lost his battle with mental health last summer.
His mother Louann Link says last night was emotional.
“I’m just overwhelmed, I really am. I’m so thankful for everybody that has stood behind us since our loss. Jevon was a good kid, he always had a smile on his face. We never had a problem with him. He loved to play sports, sing and dance. He is so missed,” says Link.
Link created the society in her son’s memory.
She says she wants to see mental health counselling in the community.
“Clark’s Harbour has a doctor’s office that isn’t being used right now. I’m looking for professionals to come in so they can take care of those who need it, and I’m hoping local people will take courses.”
Jevon Link’s old Ice Dogs teammates were reunited for last night’s ‘Battle in the Bay’ against the current Junior C team, the Southwest Storm.
The alumni won 3-1, with goals from Brent Symonds, Ryan Nickerson and Nathan Townsend.
JJ MacPhee scored the lone goal for the Storm.
