It wasn’t quite the weekend the Yarmouth Mariners were expecting.
On Friday, they defeated the Pictou County Crushers 6-3 at the Fishtank, with Max-Antoine Melancon picking up the hat-trick.
The Mariners were supposed to host Fredericton on Saturday, but due to poor travel conditions, the game was cancelled.
Last night, the Crushers were scheduled to return to Mariners Centre, but a scheduling conflict also wiped out that game.
The Mariners appear to have played their final home game of the regular season. They went 10-5-2-0 at Mariners Centre this year.
They visit South Shore tomorrow, head to Summerside on Thursday and close out the schedule with a road game in the Valley on Saturday.
The final standings are being determined by points percentage, and the Mariners have the best rank in the Eastlink South Division at .712, ahead of the Amherst Ramblers at .606.
The playoffs are scheduled to start around March 24th. The top team in the division will play the fourth ranked team in the first round, and second will play third.
