We could be getting a major curling event in Yarmouth later this year.
Yarmouth and Acadian Shores says they’re putting the finishing touches on a bid for the Canadian Senior Men’s and Women’s Championships this December at Mariners Centre and the Yarmouth Curling Club.
The event would bring in over 150 athletes, and could generate north of one million dollars for the region.
YASTA Executive Director Neil MacKenzie says the timing is perfect.
“It’s in December, and that aligns with some of our efforts to build our area as not just a summer destination. We want people thinking about Yarmouth and Acadian Shores all year long,” says MacKenzie.
YASTA has asked three local municipal units for $10,000 each in funding.
The Town of Yarmouth approved their portion at their council meeting last night.
