The federal government is investing $200,000 to improve accessibility and enhance visitor experience at Wentworth Lake Municipal Park in Clare.
The Municipality of Clare will also contribute $71,154 to the project.
Communications Officer for the municipality Amy Paradis says the project coincides with the province’s goal to make all of Nova Scotia more accessible by 2030.
“We’re currently looking at our public spaces to ensure that they are more accessible,” “That includes ensuring our trails are more wheelchair accessible, perhaps including some play items in the playground area that could be accessible for all.”
Plans for the park include:
- formalizing the welcome areas and trailheads;
- the construction of new and accessible washrooms;
- providing an opportunity for access to the lake; including for small boats and kayaks.
- trail resurfacing to provide greater accessibility;
- the development of a natural play-oriented trail made of eco-friendly materials.
Wentworth Lake Municipal Park is one of six sites slated for improvements through the Municipality of Clare’s Tourism Public Spaces Master Plan.
Paradis says the investment from the feds is wonderful.
“Normally a lot of our infrastructure is located along the shoreline, it’s really great to be able to renovate and to add more infrastructure to Wentworth Lake Park, which is further inland and it really is a hidden gem for our community.”
The investment from the feds comes from the Canada Community Revitalization Fund.
