Thirty-three rinks and recreation facilities received provincial funding yesterday for upgrades.
Locally, the Sandy Wickens Memorial Arena in Barrington got nearly $15,000.
Warden Eddie Nickerson says the funds will be used toward the replacement of their refrigeration control system.
“Our arena has been there since 1995, and the upgrades we’re doing haven’t had attention for a while. We’re trying to keep the building in as good of shape as possible,” says Nickerson.
The funding will cover about one third of the replacement cost.
Mariners Centre in Yarmouth got $5,900 for upgrades to video equipment, and the installation of water bottle filling stations.
Funds also went to Universite Sainte-Anne, Digby Area Recreation and the Shelburne Curling Club.
The money comes from the province’s ‘Rink Revitalization Fund.’
