Need a Christmas dinner tomorrow?
At Branch 61 of the Royal Canadian Legion in Yarmouth, you can pick one up free of charge from noon to 3 p.m.
For 25 years, Yarmouth resident Brenda Hattie and a group of volunteers have led the initiative.
Hattie says they’ve grown a lot since then.
“We outgrew the simulator range, we then moved across the street, then we went to the Lions Club. When we outgrew that, we came here to the Legion where we have more space,” says Hattie.
She says COVID-19 protocols will be in place.
“At the door, they’ll be checking for proof of vaccination. The meal will then be given to them through the door. It’s take-out, or delivery only this year”.
Hattie says even though they can’t host in-person meals, it still means a lot to be able to provide this for the community.
She thanks all those who donated and all the volunteers who prepared and will deliver food.
