A yearly campaign is under way through a local organization that provides refuge for women and children.
Juniper House’s Purple Ribbon campaign draws attention and awareness to violence against women.
Acting Executive Director Ruth Doucette says it’s part of 16 days of activism on gender violence.
“The purpose is to commemorate the December 6th, 1989 killings of 14 women at Ecole Polytechnique in Montreal, and to raise awareness about the far-reaching effects of violence against women,” says Doucette.
Doucette says her thoughts are with all women who experience abuse and their children, and they continue to work toward assisting them.
The organization has outreach offices in Yarmouth, Shelburne and Digby counties.
