Lobster fishers are heading out on the water now.
LFA 33 and 34 have both started their season.
A pre-season weather call was held this morning by Port Reps and the Department of Fisheries and Oceans. They decided to start delay the start of the season this morning from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m.
LFA 33 started heading out at 7 a.m.
Reverend Bill Newell was at the Cape Forchu Lighthouse this morning to offer a prayer and blessing for the fleet.
“Heavenly father, as again we turn our boats to the sea at the beginning of another lobster season, we are mindful that your sea is so big and our boats, even the largest of them, are so small. We pray that your gracious and loving hand of protection will be on our fishermen and women, and their families, as they begin this new season. May you remind them to be cautious and alert, even as they rush about to get their gear into the water. Keep them attentive and always aware of their surroundings. Be with their families at home, in their love and concern, and keep them calm as well. Bless each one with safety and bless that their endeavors will succeed. And may your hand bring them safely home. And so fellas and woman, safe to sea, safe home, but of all be careful out there. Every blessing. Amen.”
Others who offered their well wishes out at Cape Forchu this morning were Brazil Rock 33/34 Executive Director Dan Fleck, Municipality of the District of Yarmouth Warden John Cunningham, Yarmouth MLA Zach Churchill and Cape Forchu Site Manager Jennifer Wilkins.
