A new medical clinic will be a strategic priority for the Municipality of Barrington.
Council wants to begin budgeting next year for the construction.
Warden Eddie Nickerson says the facility the doctors practice in now is a rented location.
“And we feel a building that could get all the doctors and healthcare professionals in one building would certainly be a bonus for recruitment for the future,” says Nickerson.
Nickerson says the municipality does have some doctors getting closer to retirement, and this would help attract new physicians to the area.
He says council will be seeking funding from other levels of government to help with the project, as this is not just a municipal issue.
“We’ll put it in our strategic plan and put some money aside, and we’ll be looking for funding from the provincial and federal governments, if there is any.”
Council passed a motion on the issue during their October 25th council meeting.
